description:

Raster dataset with vertical datum elevation differences between the NGVD29 and NAVD88 vertical datums, 1000 ft vertcon05. Gridded values represent the difference in elevation values, in feet, between two vertical reference systems -- National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) and North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). The current standard reference for elevation, or vertical datum, is NAVD88 but some data still exist in NGVD29 and for some purposes it is still necessary to work in NGVD29.

Raster values represent the difference between the two datums and can be used to convert from NAVD88 to NGVD29 by adding the datum difference to NAVD88 values or subtracting the datum difference to go from NGVD29 to NAVD88.

The datum-shift values were converted from the Corpscon software, version 6, using VertCon05 (version 2.5), which was put together by USACE/TEC and includes recent survey monumentation for southern Florida. The VertCon05 is intended as an improvement on the older VertCon94, which previously was provided by the NGDC as part of the standard VertCon conversion package. This dataset covers all of southern Florida, up to 29-degrees latitude.
