Service Description: A series of land use (LU) maps have been produced by the SFWMD since the early 1970s. It was produced by photointerpretation of 1:40,000 USGS NAPP color infrared photography. The work was carried out by multiple contractors, with significant input and review by a community of stakeholders at the District. The contract was managed by the Technical Resources Team (TRT) at SFWMD. The classification system is a modified version of the statewide FLUCCS (Florida Land Use and Cover Classification System) maintained by FDOT. This modified version uses classes that are mainly at the community level, but also includes a number of species of concern. Modifications and corrections have been made to the map since its creation. There is no formal assessment of accuracy parameters for this layer.

Subject: This version of the 1995 land use and land cover contains data mapped by SFWMD, SJRWMD and SWFWMD and combined into a normalized schema populated using a standard code reference look up. All three mapping efforts used the same modified version of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Florida Land Use / Land Cover Classification System (FLUCCS) was used. Land use classes were interpreted from 1994/1995 National Aerial Photography Program (NAPP) aerial photography.
