The SFWMD was divided into 14 rainfall forecast areas in 1999 for water management operations purposes. Rainfall frequency analysis were performed for these areas are documented in Ali, A and W. This array was developed as part of the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) rain gauge network optimization study (2006). This study recommended improvements to the existing rain gauge network to achieve consistent and accurate rainfall estimates across the operational portion of the SFWMD.
