The Lower East Coast Service Areas (LECSA) is a polygon feature class that describes the extent and location of the LECSA boundaries referenced in the <\/SPAN>2000 LEC Water Supply Plan <\/SPAN><\/A>(Figure 2-1, page 70), discussed originally in CERP Yellow Book <\/SPAN>(Appendix D.8.4, page D-63<\/SPAN><\/A>), and Consumptive Use Chapter 40E-2.091 Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.). The network of Lower East Coast canals and control structures provides capacity for water supply and salinity control in the area. Wellfields are significantly recharged by releasing water from the WCAs and conveying this water through coastal canals to the vicinity of the wellfields. For CERP water supply analysis, the Lower East Coast Service Area (LECSA) is divided into four service areas based on canal drainage basins: North Palm Beach, and Service Areas 1, 2, and 3. The North Palm Beach Service Area extends from northern to central Palm Beach County, encompassing approximately one-third of the county and includes one primary canal, the C-17. Service Area 1 covers the remainder of Palm Beach County and a small portion of Broward County to just below the Hillsboro Canal. There are four primary canals that traverse the service area: C-51, C-16, C-12, and the Hillsboro Canal. Service Area 2 includes most of Broward County and a portion of Miami-Dade County. It extends south from the Hillsboro Basin to just south of the C-9, which lies in Miami-Dade County. Four primary coastal canals extend through Service Area 2: C-14, C-13, North New River, and C-9. Service Area 3 includes the remainder of Miami-Dade County from the C-9 Basin south to near the tip of the peninsula. There are three primary coastal canals in Service Area 3: C-4, C-6 and C-2.
